Winter has arrived in the Laurentians with its crisp and cold air and that long awaited sound of swishing skis against packed snow! Blue skies reigned over the valley.
Mont Saint-Sauveur worked wonders over the past few nights to bring the skiers some great conditions for the weekend. Snow covered trees provided a stunning backdrop to the green landscape below in the village.
Three trails were open, the 70 West, Nordique and Petit Viking. The trails were not overly crowded and lift lines went quickly and smoothly. The trails were almost fully covered top to bottom, providing a wide open winter paradise for skiers and snowboarders. Up until 1pm, snow guns were still running strong on nearby trails, giving hope that the skiable domain will grow in the near future.
Skiers and snowboard riders will enjoy the box module, setup on the 70 West trail just before the final pitch. While conditions were very good, I do have to say that ice was developing as the day progressed. Luckily it was mostly contained to the final pitches of the trails. Ice tends to be a by-product of the process of making artificial snow. A little trick to know, the sides of a trail tend to be in better condition as there is usually more powder than in the middle section of the trail.
SlopeEdge's Maxime joined me on the trails today, proving once and for all, that the best prescription for a sick skier is to go skiing. :)
While the weather forecast during the past few days, hasn't been overly promising for Sunday, things seem to be turning around. Below zero temperatures are becoming the norm, and some snow is expected throughout the week. Although the natural variety is always preferred, we can be sure that snow making operations will be running full force as long as temperatures stay around -4 C.
The new bar at the main chalet, is scheduled to open in less than 2 weeks. Already famous for its après-ski, the bar will become THE hottest place in the Laurentians for a night out. Read more about the bar redevelopment here.
It's amazing, even with just two trails open, how much fun I had on the mountain. Skiing is an amazing sport, filled with panoramic landscapes as far as the eye can see. The season has only started and I eagerly await my next ski day. Have a great weekend!
